EF-S 17-85mm IS USM Lens Report!

Wed Jul 18, 2007, 1:04 PM
So check this out. I got my new EF-S 17-85mm IS USM lens today for my Digital Rebel camera and I was checking out the IS feature (Image Stabilization) and I gotta say... it works amazingly great. It actually works better than I thought it would. I took a couple of test photos to prove it... I was really surprised by the results.

If anyone is considering getting a new Canon lens... if it doesn't have a large aperture like f/1.8 or something, then make sure it has Image Stabilizing... it truly does make a difference... believe me... I can hardly believe it myself!

By the way... my cat was not moving. He just opened his eyes to see what I was doing.

I have one of these, it is great for HDR shots and almost impossible to keep clean (but worth the trouble).

The focus ring doesn't squeak anymore but, it seems to stick a little bit if you try to turn it slowly. Once it's being turned, it's okay but, as you start or if you slow down, it seems to feel like it sticks. I'm wondering if this is the nature of this particular lens because my 28mm prime USM is fine... the focus ring moves smoothly no matter what speed you spin it at.

Mine doesn't do that, it is smooth all of the way. You might want to get it looked at or replaced (if you bought it new...got mine used).

I just got it replaced... hehe. It used to squeak... so I sent it in for repair... this is the repaired version.
